Books, Books, Books

I don't know about you but I love to read. Anyone who has gone to the store with me (mostly Jonathan) knows that I hardly get past the book section of a store without finding a book I want to buy and read. I also love when people recommend books to me. I am not picky about genres, but I have to admit that I mostly read fiction. I have also read and enjoyed nonfiction as well. I am going to list books on here that I have read this summer and into the future. PLEASE feel free to share books with me that I may like. Remember, I am not picky. Let's get reading!! :)

1. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen is now a movie. I would highly recommend this book. It was a great read of a man's memories of being on the circus and of course a love story is involved.

2. Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin is also a movie. It is a crazy story of love and scandal. A good girl that always plays by the rules and then suddenly decides to follow her heart but it could be at the expense of her best friend.

3. 4th of July by James Patterson- This was a thriller! I love James Patterson and you definitely have to be into the murder mystery, homicide detective thrillers to like it. I read over half of the book in a day and finished it. I also liked the short chapters...for reluctant (adult) readers, it is encouraging to get through 20 chapters in about 40 min. :)

4. Just ordered the book Heaven is for Real from overstock.com. It is about a boy who had to have an emergency surgery and claims he went to heaven. He has very believable descriptions and can even tell his parents that he saw them praying for him and where they were praying. This book sounds powerful beyond words and I can't wait to read it to let you know how it is!

I am finished reading Heaven is for Real and I would completely recommend it. It literally gave me the chills reading this little 3 year old boy's account of heaven. I think the most powerful part of the book is the fact that he is so innocent in his descriptions. Again, this is a quick read (like all my books)! Enjoy!

5. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince: I have read 6 of the 7 Harry Potter books. I got started on them when I was in a children's literature class in college and was required to read the first Harry Potter book. I loved it, so I had to read the series. I get distracted and read other books in between them but now I am finally starting the last book. I have promised myself that I will not watch any of the movies until I am done with ALL of the books. Book 6 was good but I am was upset about what happened in it...if you love Harry Potter this is a must read obviously!

6. I finished the Harry Potter books. They are wonderful and I am so glad I read them. I was sad how they ended, and mad that they are over, but I won't put any spoilers on here.

7. Lately I am stuck on the Amanda Knox trials. So I thought what better way to learn more but to get a book about it. So my latest is The Fatal Gift of Beauty: The Amanda Knox Trials. I am learning a lot of background and a lot about Perugia (Italy) that is overlooked due to its beauty.

Keep them coming. Leave your books in the comments section!

  1. I would read "possessing the secret of joy" by alice walker.. it is a fictional book based on real research.. Alice walker is an african american feminist and wrote this book on female circumcision.. sounds pretty heavy.. I know.. and it is a bit hard to follow at the beginning. But if you really want to challenge yourself and read a book on a serious issue that innocent women and children are silenced about every day, I would recommend it. I loved it!

  2. Thanks for the post, Elyse. I am backed up right now, but as soon as I am caught up, I will definitely read it. I like adult books, and since I teach middle schoolers, I feel like I read to many middle school books. HAHA
